Jeff in the Community

Jeff Burkhart joined students Tuesday from Moore Magnet Elementary at APSU as they took part in a very special project called If I Had A Hammer. Jeff helped the kids build a miniature house under the instruction of If I Had a Hammer Foundation CEO, Perry Wilson. The finished product – a free-standing house complete with windows, door, and a front porch – is the result of team work, communication, and the real-life application of math and science concepts.

Letter from Jeff

Dear Clarksville Citizens,

I’ d like to begin this letter by first thanking you for choosing Clarksville as your home. As a former 25-year firefighter, businessman and public servant I understand many of the challenges you have faced and I want to do things right for the people of this city. I know hard work and I know hard workers want someone who they can relate to.

If you elect me to serve as your mayor I will work to do the following:

Regain Trust by providing fair and open government for all city employees, elected officials and all Clarksville citizens. This means no more back door deals.

Seek Opportunities to bring more jobs into our community and secure those that are here.

Reinstate Appeals Process once again allowing city employees to bring grievances before a board for review as the final authority no longer allowing the mayor to have ultimate power.

Provide Adequate Services and Equipment by making police, firefighters and other short staffed departments a priority in budget processes.

Open the Bid Process to all Qualified Vendors by organizing an unbiased and fair approach to select vendors for city products and services.

Yes, I work as a developer, but I promise to never push or promote any project that will make personal gains for me, my friends or my family. My interests will continue to represent the interests of the citizens of Clarksville not self-interests.

During this campaign I have stayed positive as others have tried to attack my character and spent thousands of dollars on personal telemarketers to portray me as someone I am not. I have made alliances with no one in city government past or present and owe no personal favors. This does not sit well with those who continue to seek power in Clarksville. I will run a clean city just as I have run a clean campaign.

Whether Clarksville has been your home for generations or you are here for a few years bravely serving our country, I want our city to be a place where you can work, learn and enjoy. I would love the opportunity to talk to you about any questions or concerns

I ask that you put me to work for you so I can work with you to move Clarksville ahead.

Sincerely,

Jeff Burkhart
Clarksville Mayoral Candidate 2010
